U11 Blue
Enjoying the first game of the season played under clear skies, the Cohasset Blue beat rival Hingham 6-4. This was the second time this year that the Blue has taken a Hingham side.

Though the first half of the game was choppy, Cohasset still managed to enter the break up 2-1 on the strength of first-time goalie Holly Maher’s net-minding. Maher stopped 6 shots on goal and showed poise directing in the zone. A stingy defense led by Bridget Condon held back a Hingham offense that dominated ground balls early. Megan McElgunn, Caroline Obrien, and Madeline Schwandt played strong in the Cohasset end and turned back Hingham throughout the half.

In the second half, the girls shook off the early jitters displaying a spread offense, crisp passing, and gritty ground ball work. This was unquestionably the best half of lacrosse that the Blue had played all year. Shea Kearny set the tone for the second 20 minutes winning 6 ground balls, scoring once and assisting twice. Again, middie strength proved to be the difference for Cohasset. Minnie Stavis, Abby McLean and Nikki Federle were the fastest line on the field and provided the transition game. The quick tempo created the opportunity for Lanie Schwartz and Ellie Jackish to continue their scoring streaks. Schwartz posted one goal and two assists while Jackish posted two goals and one assist. Callihan O’Neil also got on the board again with her 3rd goal of the season coming from the right side and finding the top left corner.

The Blue attack spread out the Hingham defense with Coleen McGowan posted behind the net. Coleen fed balls to an attack of Margot Robbins, Kristi McNarry, Madigan O’Neil and Olivia Sanderson. The movement created in the restraining zone allowed Cohasset to gain position thoroughout and win for the 4th time this year.

The Cohasset Blue will be back in action on Sunday June 1st when the travel to Hingham looking for a clean sweep for the year.

U13 Blue
The U13 Blue team faced a solid Hingham Yellow squad at home and took over the game right from the opening draw. Lexa Grasz continued her outstanding play with a draw control and score in the first 10 seconds of the game. Cohasset got another score right away, as Kathryn Dunn charged in from the right wing and fired one home. The Blue team kept the heat on throughout the first half as Molly Fitzgerald, Dagmar Seppala, Annie McElgunn, Grasz and Dunn again would all join the scoring parade and take a 9-2 lead into the half.

The second half started the same as the first as Grasz scored again to make it four goals on the day. The score was set up by a great pass from Shannon McGowan. Fitzgerald scored off a set pick play for her second goal and then completed her hat trick after moving to a defensive position, scooping a ground ball near mid-field and then racing down the middle to rip one past the keeper. Christina Tedeschi was excellent on ground balls all day and was rewarded for her efforts after scooping a loose ball and running past three defenders for a score.

Cohasset did everything they could to keep the score down, including moving the attack to defense and vice versa. Although the move slowed the scoring pace down it did not deter McGowan from scoring her first goal of the year on a nice dodge move from in tight to make the final 13-5. Emily Robbins was strong on defense all day and picked up a nice assist after clearing the ball to midfield. Goalie Olivia Blackburn picked up her fifth victory of the season with six saves on the day.

U13 White
The U13 White team played a tough game against a very skilled Duxbury 6 Green team on Sunday and lost 13-4. Notable performances came from Taylor Frederick in goal with five saves and Cassandra Lieberman on defense. Mackenzie Axelson was outstanding both ways and controlling the draw. Caroline Prescott was very aggressive on defense and Maggie Littlejohn did a great job on coverage and clearing. Caroline Farren showed great hustle throughout the game and emerging skill was seen from Erin Driscoll, Valerie Farren, Meredith Corry, Hanna Cooper (middie and goalie) and Alison Bodner.
