COHASSET U15 LAXERS CAPTURE TTL LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP
– June 19, 2008
In a rematch of the recent state high school finals, 7th/8th grade boy’s lacrosse teams from Cohasset and Scituate battled it out last Thursday for the Town Tournament League Championship (TTL). In it’s second year, the TTL is a regional select lacrosse program that features the best lacrosse players at a U13 and U15 level from South Shore towns playing in a 8 game season throughout the Spring as a compliment to their regular town lacrosse programs. This year, the Cohasset U15 TTL Team dominated the regional competition and after an undefeated regular season, they defeated Marshfield in the semi-finals for a chance to play in the title game versus perennial arch-rival Scituate.
In a much anticipated title game that was made even more electrifying being played on Scituate’s new turf field and under the lights, the Cohasset crew brought their “A” game to the field and quickly set the tone for the night’s success by putting on a college-level “clinic” on how to play this great American game. The 1st half looked like an ESPN highlight reel with the hometown laxers dominating every facet of the game from face-off to ground balls, defensive strips, and picture–perfect offensive execution that put this game out of reach by the 1st intermission with the score 7 – 0 after the 1st quarter.
A few of the highlights from the game included: 17 saves by Willy Brown that stifled every offensive charge; multiple rocket-snipes by Kyle Livingstone, Danny Czerkawski, and Robbie Mahoney; a behind the back flip-shot by John Collins; a full field clear and score by Dean McNary; ankle- breaking deeks and laser-like feeds from Mitch McNary and Charlie Neaves; and Alex Evans picking a shot’s rebound “out of the air” and stuffing it back where it belonged. Derek Froio and Geoff Swain anchored an unbeatable defensive corps while underclassmen, Ryan McGovern, Teddy Patsos, and Nick Tangherlini kept Scituate under wraps defensively with John Mills and Andrew Fontaine adding to the point tally to insure that the victory was preserved.
In the end, Cohasset posted a very impressive 15 – 5 victory that provided the perfect ending to a perfect season (9W – 0L) as the Cohasset kids hosted their trophies in celebration and socked away some great memories for the future.
